Personal Brand
The term personal brand is often used to describe the perception people have of you as an individual and for the longest time I used to wonder why should I care about other people’s opinions ? Why try to control it ?(positive or negative as it is right now). Isn’t it better just ignore other’s opinions and not care what your personal brand is ? This feels right and it felt right to me for a number of years until I realised that actually personal brand is less about controlling others opinions and more about putting your authentic self out there on the internet / real life . When you do that not all people will like you , but the ones who do will be your true friends
Oftentimes when I find myself saying I don’t care about outside opinions . I think it’s because somewhere deep down I feel putting my authentic self out there is dangerous and people will instantly hate me for it and so in an ironic sense I do actually care about their opinions , too much so that I can’t say anything due to this fear that no one will like it . It’s easier to rationalise to yourself that you don’t care about public opinion , when in fact what you want to say is - ‘I care so much about public opinion that I can’t say anything or I don’t feel like saying anything ‘ . When you block off the entire population because of this fear , you miss out on the people who do agree with your thoughts and opinions and can be potential friends .
Personal brand is conveying to others what is already true about yourself , not what you want to be true about yourself
